Obtaining of passport for Chilean citizens at the Consulates of Chile overseas

What does it consist of?

Request a machine readable passport by means of the Consulates of Chile overseas.

Where can it be requested ?

At the consulates of Chile overseas corresponding to the place of residence of the holder.

Who is it addressed to?

To Chilean citizens who are overseas and require a passport.

Requirements

• Prove Chilean nationality.
• National Identity Card in force.
• Minors under the age of 18 must submit notary authorization from both parents and the guardian.
• In the case of not having any Chilean identification, it would be mandatory to carry out the verification of identity and of the number of Identity Card at which point the fingerprints of both hands must be sent to the Civil Registry & Identity General Department.
• The applicant must not have pending charges with the Investigations Police.

Fees

• A passport of 32 pages costs US$ 100 plus a US$3 for consular tariff.
• A passport of 64 pages costs US$ 123 plus a US$3 consular tariff.

These costs may vary in accordance with rises determined annually by the Civil Registry & Identification Service, agreed that it is the issuing agency of this document.

Observations

• Additional records may be required during the application procedures.
• Consulates with capturing station: approximately one and a half month.
• At Consulates not provided with a capturing station, requirements must be consulted at the corresponding Consulate and the request takes approximately two and a half months.
• The delay will also depend on the acceptance of Civil Registry & Identification Service, which takes into account the capture quality of passport and or Identity Card, as may also request other documentation facing identity situations that are not clear. These cases will be more time consuming, for this reason the Consulates must send to this department the mentioned documentation via diplomatic bag which frequency is monthly.
