Launch of new Website “Chile Abroad”

The new web portal “Chile Abroad”(www.chileabroad.gov.cl), expected to be launched by July 2009, seeks to meet the need to standardize the content of the various websites of Chile’s Missions Abroad, in order to improve the dissemination of information for diverse users.

A VISUAL PROPOSAL OF SERVICE ABROAD

The portal has standardized content, mainly in Spanish and English and access to complete information on Embassies, Consulates and Representations to International Organizations.

Likewise, it will gradually provide a crosswise and comprehensive content on Chile in multiple languages, highlighting its history, geography, culture and identity, tourism and other elements of national interest.

As a portal, “Chile Abroad”, aims at efficiently disseminating significant activities currently carried out by our country’s Missions abroad. It seeks to offer a quality service in the information provided, allowing the improvement of mechanisms of communication with the users of these services.

Thus, we developed a platform able to meet national and international standards of security, usability and access for the disabled.

With a new communication proposal for nationals and foreigners abroad, the web portal offers easy-to-understand graphic modules that facilitate the access to procedures. In addition , there is plenty information on how to apply for services and documentation and contact information allowing the user to access in a friendlier way to spaces and officers at embassies and consulates.

MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, E-GOVERNMENT AND MODERNIZATION

Users’ service has become one of the main objectives of the state modernization policy. Therefore, one of our goals is to provide people with a set of active and flexible networks of information and service.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile is not unrelated to this modernization objective and is incorporating ICT tools in various fields of its management. All these actions are designed to establish reliable technological responses and a set of processes aimed at improving service quality for citizens.

The Concept of “e-Government” as a facilitator to information and promoter of new standards of service is, undoubtedly, a strategic of this Ministry.

The institutional challenge, posed time ago, and the activation of specific projects and their implementation through integrated management models, allow us to present concrete ICT applications with high impact in target users.
