Washington DC established November 12th as the Day of the 33 Miners
Resolution presented to Ambassador Arturo Fermandois:
- The capital of the United States declared November 12th as the official day to celebrate the 33 miners rescued in Chile.

Washington, November 12th 2010 – The Mayor’s Office in Washington DC approved on Friday a resolution in honor of the 33 Chilean miners. Recently elected mayor Vincent Gray presented the resolution to the Ambassador of Chile to the United States, Arturo Fermandois. The resolution states that the official day celebrating the rescue of the 33 miners in Copiapó will be every November 12th of every year.
“The Government and the people of Chile led a united rescue effort with vision, and with the latest technology to save the 33 miners. The courage, resilience, faith, humility and commitment from both the miners and from all Chileans have been an example to the world” said Gray.
The resolution was endorsed by council member Jim Graham, with the participation of his Latin American Affairs Director, Mrs. Jackie Reyes. Culminating with an official Ceremony in Washington DC’s Town Hall attended by Ambassador Arturo Fermandois, his wife, and diplomatic members from the Embassy of Chile
The resolution was signed by 11 council members and by the mayor.
