With great public success, was inaugurated on March 27, 2013 at 18 pm the Third Chilean Film Series at the Instituto Cervantes Dublin.

With the assistance of the diplomatic corps, officials and students of Cervantes, personalities from the local cultural secene and members of the Chilean community in Ireland was projected the film “For Rent” by novelist and director Alberto Fuguet, accompanied later by a reception in the Literary Café of this institution.

This 2013 version will allow the public until April 17 to enjoy various movies such as “Teresa”, “Sub Terra” and “The Moon in the Mirror” as part of the series “Film and Literature”.

Last Thursday November 22nd was launched the Exhibition and Poetic Lecture “Arpilleras Poéticas” at 18 hrs in the Exhbition Room of The Cervantes Institute of Dublin by the Chilean curator resident in Northern Ireland, Roberta Bacic with poetry readings of the Chilean Poet Jaime Huenún.

In this occasion poems of Jaime Huenún were presented to the audience in spanish/english and a table with his main publications. The Cervantes Press Department also made an interview with Roberta Bacic for Cervantes TV On Line and the Japanese Harpist Junshi Murakami gave a musical presentation. For the first time a total of 30 Arpilleras were exhibited in Dublin representing a great opportunity for the public know this tradtional Chilean textile handcraft which tells stories about the contemporary Chilean society. Roberta Bacic also did a guided tour explaining its elaboration and main topics. The Exhbition was supported by the Culture Division of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Chile (DIRAC).

The Exhbition will be open till next December 15th 2012.

Más de mil personas vieron alguna de las 11 películas latinoamericanas que se exhibieron entre el 14 y 20 de noviembre en el Keppel Latin American Film Festival 2012.  Durante una semana, el público singapurense pudo asistir de forma gratuita a ver películas de Brasil, Chile, Ecuador, México, Panamá y Venezuela.

Durante la ceremonia inaugural se exhibió la película chilena de Rodrigo Sepúlveda “Padre Nuestro, la Última Cita”, un profundo drama que explora los más íntimos conflictos de una familia y el rol del padre en ellos.  Ambientada en la zona costera de la V región, la película permitió a los asistentes conocer un Valparaíso bohemio con personajes iconográficos que van abriendo paso al reencuentro del padre distante con sus hijos.

También se exhibió “A un Metro de Ti”, colaboración chileno-española que no solo muestra un Santiago muy urbano y cotidiano, sino que incluye una excelente muestra de gastronomía chilena y una sólida banda sonora nacional.

Last Sunday, November 18th 2012, between 11 am and 17 hrs. in the Burlington Hotel, was held Dublin International Bazaar 2012 with the participation of several exhbitors and resident diplomatic missions. In this ocasion the Embassy of Chile in Ireland was present with a tasting of chilean food and wine as well with an exhibition of traditional handcrafts and jewelry delivering to the public touristic, commercial and information about our country. The International Bazaar 2012 is very traditional in the Irish capital where the public can taste and enjoy the culture and traditions from several countries represented and is an excelent oportunity for sharing and promote our culture and touristic offer.

Last Tuesday November 13th 2012 at 18pm,the First Meeting with Dublin Tour Operators took place at the offices of the Embassy of Chile in Ireland, with the Support of ProChile. The event was attended by important tour operators, journalists and travel agencies of the Irish capital.

This novel initiative resulted into an excellent opportunity to establish contacts and to Support the promotions that tour operators conduct about Chile as a tourism destination.

On this occasion the Chilean Consul in Dublin, Mr. Cristian Oschilewslki, gave a general presentation about the Chilean touristic offer to visitors, by raising awareness of the new campaign “Experience Chile”, highlighting the features of our national destinations. At the end of the meeting the attendees received promotional material prepared by ProChile, SERNATUR and Turismo Chile, designed to spread information on the various activities that Irish tourists may engage in when visiting our country.

Between November 2nd and 4th 2012, the First ISLA Irish Spanish Latin American Literary Festival took place, organised by the Cervantes Institute Dublin together with the embassies of Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Spain and Mexico. It was a joint collaboration of Irish organisations linked to the literary world of such as Ireland Literature Exchange, Dublin UNESCO City of Literature and Poetry Ireland, and the support of Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University, Maynooth National University and University College Galway.

This first joint initiative served as a valuable platform to promote Spanish –speaking writers in Ireland. The first day was opened by the President of Ireland, Mr. Michael D. Higgins who referred to the contribution of the Spanish letters for the rapprochement of the two cultures.

There were discussion panels involving the Chilean writers Bernardo Toro Rafael Gumucio representing our country.

There were readings of their works and panel discussions in the Café Literario of the Cervantes Institute Dublin, attended by representatives from the cultural, academic, political and diplomatic community.

A group of 6 Irish, Polish and Italians students of the National University of Ireland Galway visited the Embassy of Chile in Ireland last Thursday June 14th 2012. In the occasion they had a meeting with the Consul of Chile Cristián Oschilewski, who did a general presentation of the country and talked about the activities they will have in Chile according with an exchange programme with the Pontific Universities of Santiago and Valparaíso.

The students belong to the recent created BA on Latin American Studies of NUI Galway and will stay in Chile for one year in order to know our culture and language and working on research in different areas of interest. The Head of Department, Professor Bill Richardson had visited our country and said that this is the first Group to travel to Chile reason they are pleased and satisfied for implementing this initiative opening great possibilities of cooperation on academics and students issues.

The 2nd Chilean Cinema Season was launched on Monday February 27th at 18.00 hs by the Instituto Cervantes and the Embassy of Chile in Ireland.

This is the second occasion that both institutions work together to promote this cinema season in the city of Dublin and a great opportunity for the Irish audience to have an insight into the recent Chilean productions. The event was attended by the Latin American Ambassadors, people from the local scene, teachers and students of Cervantes and members of the local Chilean community.

The 2nd Chilean Cinema Season will take place between February 27th and March 1st 2012.

Between November 28th and December 3rd, the Chilean Council on Innovation for the Competitiveness (CNIC- www.cnic.cl) made a technical visit to Ireland answering an official invitation issued by the Embassy of Chile in Ireland. The official delegation was represented by the Strategic Projects Manager, Mr. Pedro Rosas and the Communications Manager of the Council, Mr. Hugo Arias, who held meetings with several and important centers of technology, science and Irish universities in order to know the local experience on sectors such as innovation, industries and advanced human capital training.

Several meetings were held with the state agencies responsible for the public policies on innovation, including Science Foundation Ireland, ForFas, Enterprise Ireland and the Industrial Development Agency (IDA). Others meetings included the Irish Universities Association and the delegation had the opportunity to know the work of the Centre for Research on Adaptive Nanostructures and Nanodevices (CRANN) and the Trinity Biomedical Science Institute (TBSI) of the prestigious Trinity College Dublin. Also the Chilean Council went to the largest University in the country, University College Dublin (UCD) ending with a visit to the University of Limerick (www.ul.ie).

The Embassy of Chile in Ireland and members of the Chilean Community joined the 2011 version of the International Charity Bazaar Dublin (www.internationalbazaar.ie), hold the last Sunday November 13th from 11 am to 5 pm in the Bulrington Hotel.

This year, as usual, the International Bazaar met the local diplomatic community in order to support social organizations in Ireland. The Chilean stand presented traditional Chilean dishes, wine, handcrafts made of lapis lazuli food, leather and wool as well tourist information about our country.
