Global Connectivity: Access and Technology
Chile has outstanding connections to the world. Santiago is the Latin American city with the most direct flights to major business hubs throughout the region.
Domestic flyers are served by several high-standard air carriers. A direct flight from Santiago to Arica on the north or Puerto Montt on the south takes under three hours, while the road network is second to none in Latin America.
Chile’s major seaports include San Antonio and Valparaíso in the center; San Vicente and Puerto Montt in the south, and Antofagasta, Iquique and Arica in the north.
Telecommunications are fully digital, with some 3.5 million landlines and 12 million cell phones in service.
Chile’s Internet user rate -Latin America’s highest- is expected to grow to 1.5 million lines in 2010. The World Economic Forum has cited Chile’s information and communications technology as Latin America’s most competitive in 2007.
