Request for Registration of Marriage

What does it consist in?

It is the registration at the Consulate of Chile of a marriage solemnized in an overseas country for its subsequent registration at the Civil Registry and Identification Service of Chile.

Where can it be requested?

• Consulates of Chile overseas
• Department of the Civil Registry of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if the applicant has not carried out the proceeding at the corresponding Consulate.

Who is it addressed to?

To Chilean nationals overseas wishing to regularize their marriage.

Requirements

• Marriage Certificate issued by the authorities of the country
• Identity Card of the Chilean spouse.
• If one of the Spouses is a foreign-born national, an Identity document from his/her country must be submitted.

Marital Property Regime

• Community Property
• Profit Sharing Marital Regime
• Separate Property

Both spouses must appear at the Consulate. In case only one of the spouses appears, this must be Chilean. In this situation, it is established that the marriage will remain with the separate property regime, situation that is irreversible.
