Sr. Rolando Ortega Klose

(Inglés) Consul General and Counselor Ortega is a member of the diplomatic foreign service of Chile at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs since 1985. On September 1st, 2010 he was appointed Consul General of Chile in San Francisco, United States of America.
From 2009 to August 2010 he was Chief of Staff of the Directorate General for Administrative Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile.
From 2004 to 2008 he was assigned to the Embassy of Chile in the United States of America, serving as Head of the Economic Division of the Embassy. He worked in the implementation of the Chile-USA Free Trade Agreement.
From 2001 to 2003 he was Chief of Staff of the Director General of International Economic Affairs (DIRECON) at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. During that period Chile reached Free Trade Agreements with the USA, the European Union, EFTA and Korea.
From 1996 to 2000 he served at the Chilean Embassy in London, United Kingdom, as a Second Secretary in charge of economic matters.
His first assignment abroad as a diplomat was La Paz, Bolivia, where he served as Deputy Consul from 1989 to 1993.
Counselor Rolando Ortega studied Economics at the University of Chile from 1979 to 1983, obtaining an Economics Degree and a Commercial Engineering Degree in 1984. He studied Diplomacy at the Diplomatic Academy of Chile on 1985-1986. He also studied Business Administration at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1977 and 1978.
He studied High School at Colegio San Bartolomé La Merced in Bogotá, Colombia, and Elementary and Middle School at Colegio San Juan Evangelista in Santiago, Chile. He is married and has three children.
